All money paid to a university, whether for tuition, books, membership to college groups or attendance at college-sponsored activities, goes through the bursar's office. Therefore, bursars can be sitting on thousands or even millions of dollars at any given time. But for Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield, MO, the only security precaution was a contract with an armored car service. Neither the cashiers receiving payments nor the staff who kept the money in the vaults had an emergency response system to rely on in case of a problem. And there was no detection system for doors, windows, or office spaces to deter break-ins. Doug Willson, Bursar for SMS, reported that the bars on his office windows made his work environment seem more like a prison than an institute of higher education.
American Detection Specialists provided the security solution quickly and efficiently by installing wireless glassbreak sensors, smokes, PIRs, door contacts, panic buttons, sirens, and keypads; they also installed a two-way voice system. Needless to say, the bars came off the windows.
The installation caused no disruption to normal activities in the bursar's office, since the crew only had to spend time mounting the ITI Learn Mode™ sensors and touchpads and the Security Pro® 4000 control panel. The wireless glassbreak sensors provide a clean look in Willson's office, and there are no wires for burglars to trace back to the control panel. In addition, portable wireless panic buttons offer a measure of support and comfort to cashiers and other staff in the bursar's office.
