The glass-roofed conservatory of the Biltmore Estate provides a variety of plants for the house and gardens of the nation's largest privately-owned home open to the public. Temperature control is critical all year round, but never more so than when the conservatory houses the thousands of poinsettias that are used to decorate the house for annual Christmas season celebrations. The conservatory is slated for renovations, however, so sensors must be flexible enough to move with the changing layout of the building.
Asheville Security of Asheville, NC, provided the wireless solution that the Biltmore conservatory needed. Electronic thermometers are wired to ITI wireless door/window sensors that transmit to the Security Pro® 4000 control panel downstairs. If temperatures rise or fall to levels that threaten the viability of the plants, an alarm is sounded. A smaller greenhouse 400 feet away is similarly monitored with additional thermometers and wireless sensors.
The wireless system gives Asheville Security greater flexibility, considering the upcoming renovations to the Biltmore conservatory. Asheville could install the whole system and then remove individual sensors easily later.
